Services

Family Focus is a happy place with a positive and friendly atmosphere, offering opportunities to share experiences and feelings with other parents in a safe and supportive environment.  We currently offer two parent support groups a week and a termly Parenting Skills Course.  Both services are run by experienced Family Workers, Play Leaders and Play Assistants and volunteers. 

Parent Support Group
Our Parent Support Groups are held on Wednesdays during term time.  The day follows a set routine, starting at 9.30am and finishing at 2.30pm.  Staff work alongside the parents and their child/children offering a full programme of activities each half-term. At the groups parents are offered advice and support via one-to-one sessions with experienced Family Workers, workshops and training sessions, visiting speakers, behaviour modification, play therapy, and recreational and therapeutic sessions. They are encouraged to share experiences with other parents and to develop strategies to put into practice in their day-to-day lives.  They help prepare nutritional meals for themselves and their children, learning the importance of a healthy, balanced diet.  With the help of the Play Leader, parents learn about the importance of play with their children, how to manage child behavioural problems and participate in a variety of group activities.  A cooked meal is provided for both parents and children.

Parenting Skills Course
Our termly Parenting Skills Course is held every Tuesday from 9.30-12.00 over 8 weeks.  A free crèche service is provided enabling parents to give the course their full attention and attend each session.  The course covers subjects such as child development, discipline, managing behaviour, meeting children’s needs, the importance of play, expectations of yourself and making positive changes.  These sessions enable parents to build upon their own success and give them the confidence to make appropriate choices in their own life situations.  The children have a fantastic range of indoor and outdoor play equipment and activities are carefully planned to cover the 0-5 age range.
